SUMMARY:Culturally Intelligent Storytelling at Media Associates International
DESCRIPTION:In November\, Media Associates International is putting me in front of writers who publish in languages I do not speak\, in countries I have never worked in. So all of us will be on one call. \nOn Tuesday\, 17 November 2026\, I will speak at an online webinar hosted by Media Associates International. The session runs for one hour. It starts at 9:00 in the evening Manila time\, which is 8:00 in the morning on the United States East Coast. \nMedia Associates International\, or MAI\, works with Christian writers\, editors\, and publishers around the world. It helps them produce work that serves the church and reaches a wider public. \n\nEvent Details \nEvent: Global webinar hosted by Media Associates International (MAI) \nDate: Tuesday\, 17 November 2026 \nTime: 9:00 to 10:00 PM Manila\, which is 8:00 to 9:00 AM US Eastern \nFormat: Online\, one hour\, teaching and open questions \nAudience: Christian writers\, editors\, and publishers worldwide \nWebinar title: To be announced by MAI \nRegistration: To be announced by MAI \n \nWhy Media Associates International asked for this\nThe invitation followed the Philippine launch of my book. After that\, MAI asked for the core teaching of it for their global membership. \nTheir people use the word contextualised storytelling. However\, I use the phrase culturally intelligent storytelling. The two are not the same thing\, but they are chasing a related question. How does a story land with a reader who does not share the writer’s culture? \nSo that question sits at the centre of the work. It is also the daily problem of any editor whose readers live on a different continent from the writer. \nWhat the session will cover\nThe Media Associates International audience is made up of people who already write for readers in another culture. So the framework fits the room. \nFirst\, I will walk through the CIS Bamboo Framework\, which is the method at the heart of the book. \nBamboo is the image because bamboo bends without breaking. The roots hold while the stalk moves. So a story that crosses a border has to do the same thing. Something has to give\, and something has to stay. \nBut the hard part is telling those two apart. Writers usually protect the wrong things. They hold on to a detail that only makes sense at home\, while letting go of the thing that actually carried the meaning. \nThen\, after the teaching\, there will be time for questions. \nWhere this stands\nMedia Associates International will announce the final title\, the full description\, and the registration details on their own channels. Then I will add the link to this page as soon as it is live. \nSo if you write\, edit\, or publish for readers outside your own culture\, keep the evening of 17 November free. For now this is a save the date. \n\nThe Road Here \nThe first room reached entirely through the book. Media Associates International found the work after the Philippine launch\, which is a different route from the conference circuit that carried everything before it. \nBefore this: LSEG Manila\, August 2026.  ·  Next stop: Dialogo II in Auckland\, February 2027. \nRelated reading: From CIS Bamboo to C3 and Philippine Book Launch at Ateneo. \n \n\nIf you want the whole method rather than one talk\, start with the C3 Bamboo Framework. It is set out in full in the book. \n Become a Nedizen \nNed speaks to universities\, newsrooms\, and companies. See Speaking\, or get in touch.

SUMMARY:Dialogo II: 2027 International Philippine Studies Conference
DESCRIPTION:A Filipino story can travel far. But the question is what it gives up along the way. That is the question I am bringing to the Philippine Studies Conference in Auckland. \nThe conveners of Dialogo II accepted my paper. The conference runs on 18 and 19 February 2027 at the Sir Paul Reeves Building of Auckland University of Technology\, in Aotearoa New Zealand. Aotearoa is the Maori name for New Zealand. Philippine Studies is the academic field that looks at Philippine history\, culture\, and society\, including the lives of Filipinos overseas. \nThe theme this time is “(Re)imagining the Global Filipino: Roots\, Knowledges\, Communities\, and Collective Futures.” So the fit was easy to see. My work sits right there\, between roots and reach. \n\nEVENT DETAILS \nDates18 and 19 February 2027 \nVenueAUT Sir Paul Reeves Building\, 2 Governor Fitzroy Place\, Auckland CBD\, Auckland 1010\, New Zealand \nMy sessionTime to be announced \nOrganiserDialogo II Conference Organising Committee \nRegisterConference registration page. Early bird rates run until 15 September 2026. \n \nWhat I am bringing to the Philippine Studies Conference\nMy paper is titled “From Filipino Roots to Global Resonance: A Cultural Intelligence Framework for Filipino Content Creators.” \nFilipino films\, television\, and online content cross borders every day now. So creators feel a quiet pressure. To reach more people\, many of them copy Western storytelling habits and sand down whatever feels too local. But that trade costs too much. It treats cultural specificity as a problem to fix\, when it is often the reason the work is worth watching. That is where my paper for the Philippine Studies Conference begins. \nThe paper offers another route. It uses the Culturally Intelligent Storytelling Bamboo Framework from my book. The framework reads a story through four parts: StoryRoot\, StoryCraft\, StoryPulse\, and StoryLeaf. Instead of asking creators to remove cultural difference\, it asks them to make cultural meaning easier to enter. Because a story does not need flattening before other people can follow it. \nCome and sit in\, if you are in Aotearoa New Zealand\nThis Philippine Studies Conference is for the Filipino community and the wider public in New Zealand\, because Auckland is where the conversation is happening. The venue is the Sir Paul Reeves Building at 2 Governor Fitzroy Place\, Auckland CBD. Registration is open\, and early bird rates run until 15 September 2026. The fee covers the conference kit and meals on both days. \nThe organisers have not announced my session time yet. So I will post it here once the programme comes out. Until then\, the conference website and the Philippine Studies Network site carry updates as they come. \n\nThe Road Here \nThe furthest point on the road so far\, and the first one still ahead. The work began at a graduate conference in Diliman in May 2025. Dialogo II in Auckland is where it goes next in the academic line\, two years and three continents later. \nBefore this: the Media Associates International webinar\, November 2026.  ·  Where it started: the UP Asian Center graduate conference\, May 2025. \nRelated reading: Restorying Heritage: Returning Meaning\, Memory\, and Voice and From UP to Southeast Asian Narratives. \n \n\nIf you want the whole method rather than one talk\, start with the C3 Bamboo Framework. It is set out in full in the book. \n Become a Nedizen \nNed speaks to universities\, newsrooms\, and companies. See Speaking\, or get in touch.
